Year 10 English

Our Year 10 English tutoring program starts in Term 1 and ends in Term 4 each year. The program covers all syllabus outcomes and requirements of the NSW BOSTES Stage 5 syllabus, with the overall goal of giving year 10 students the ability and confidence to take on Year 11 English Advanced and English Extension 1.

Year 10 English Course Overview

The Year 10 English tutoring program will exceed the outcomes and standards required by the stage 5 syllabus, with particular focus on establishing and refining skills relevant to English at a senior level, such as essay writing and textual analysis.

Importance of English in Year 10 to the HSC

We are of the opinion that students who are serious about their HSC are significantly better of taking on English Advanced in year 11 (in order to benefit from the much stronger scaling of English Advanced over Standard) given that at least 2 units of English will count towards their ATAR.

In order for students to confidently take on year 11 English Advanced, it is necessary to be pushed beyond the minimum standards of the year 10 stage 5 English syllabus. It is on this basis that our year 9 and 10 English courses are built.
